Ceramics Collection

I created these ceramics for a final project, entitled, "Pieces of my Mother," at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Finger

Warty Thumb

Detail of the thumb with warts. I used to have terrible warts on my hands growing up (so did my mother).

Warty Thumb

Cut Foot

Detail of Cut Foot. In highschool I cut my foot open on a broken glass in my bedroom and had a seizure trying to clean the wound in the bathroom. The first person I saw when I woke up, who was tipsy, upset, and tripping over me while cursing, was my mother.

Surgery

Surgery

Detail of Surgery. My mother had the lower section of her femur removed and replaced with a cadaver's bone due to damage she'd done to her knees playing sports.

Ringneck Snakes

Ringneck Snakes

Detail of Ringneck Snakes. As a kid, I was in love with ringneck snakes, which are fairly common in Oklahoma. My brother and I would hunt for them by pushing over fallen logs or railroad ties.

Teeth

Teeth

Detail of Teeth. My mother lost her front teeth in a pool accident when she was a teenager. She would often remove her fake front teeth and cackle like a witch to scare my friends or small kids.
